Question:

Non-member Heather wants to know what Australian pennies are valuable. She is a retiree and may need to sell some of her collection.

Answer:

The best general resource for determine the value of Australian pennies is Collecting and Investing in Australian Coins and Banknotes (including complete market guide for all issues) by Greg McDonald. The book is somewhat outdated (printed in 1991), but it will provide a good rule of thumb, especially in determining which are the more valuable pennies in your collection. To become more knowledgeable about your penny collection and the history of Australian currency in general, you can check the Web pages of the Tasmanian Numismatic Society, the Australian Numismatic Society, Royal Australian Mint, and the Perth Mint.
