Question:
Member shawnmclure asks, "I have a 1972 card that is much like a baseball card only its Sirley Chislom who was running in the US presidential primaries. She is the first black woman to run for President. And since we have minorities- Clinton and Obama running I was wondering if its were worth anything. It's in mint condition."
Answer:
Shawnmclure,
I assume you mean Shirley Chisholm (not Sirley Chislom). If so, it is likely you are holding a 1972 Topps Presidents #37 Shirley Chisholm card. This card recently sold on eBay for $1.29.
The card falls under the category of non-sports trading cards. There is a magazine dedicated to non-sports cards called Non-Sports Update (NSU), which publishes the prices for these types of cards. You may wish to consult back-issues of the magazine to see if the Topps Presidents #37 card was featured. Even if it were listed, prices for this sort of item are not readily fixed. For instance, at non-sports trading card shows, a dealer might sell a box of 50 miscellaneous political trading cards for $10 that contains a Topps Presidents #37. On eBay, a Topps Presidents #37 card appears and sells for $1.29. Meanwhile, the value listed in NSU magazine might be a different price. In any case, you can safely assume your card, even in mint condition, does not have a high dollar value at the present time.
Best,
Marty
